National Heritage Institute

The National Heritage Institute is the largest contributory organization of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. Current laws, especially the Heritage Act, entrust it with a number of professional tasks related to state heritage care. It also directly manages 104 castles, chateaux and other monuments open to the public.

Charles University, Faculty of Arts

Charles University was founded in 1348 and is one of the world's oldest universities. The largest and most famous Czech university is also the best internationally ranked Czech university. As the only Czech university, Charles University ranks among the world's top 500 universities.

Architectura, z.s.

ARCHITECTURA was founded on the recommendation of the Foundation of Czech Architecture as the organization that managed the Jaroslav Fragner Gallery in the years 2001-2022. It is also behind the Landscape Festival and many other activities promoting contemporary and historical architecture.

Ing. arch. Renata Vrabelová, Ph.D.

Renata Vrabelová graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Brno University of Technology, where she also completed her doctoral studies with a focus on architecture of the post-war period. In 2000-2010 she headed the Architecture Gallery in Brno, in cooperation with foreign architectural studios she curated a number of exhibitions on contemporary world architecture, and edited publications on 20th century architecture. Since 2016 she has been working at the National Heritage Institute, Methodological Centre of Modern Architecture in Brno. In 2016-2020, she worked as the principal investigator and coordinator of the research project Modern Architecture of the 1960s and 1970s.

prof. PhDr. Petr Kratochvíl, CSc.

Born 1950 in Prague, Czech Republic. Graduate of the Faculty of Philosophy, Charles University, Prague in 1974 in the field of philosophy and psychology. He worked as a researcher in the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) 1986-2022 and since 2007 has lectured at the Faculty of Arts and Architecture, TU Liberec. He received the title professor (in the field of the History of Architecture and Monuments Care) at the Czech Technical University in Prague (2014). His research and pedagogical activities concentrate on the theory and history of modern and contemporary architecture and in the last period especially on problems of urban public space.

Ing. Petr Svoboda

Petr Svoboda is a graduate of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics and the Faculty of Business at Brno University of Technology, he also studied art history at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University. He has been working at the National Herizage Institute since 2007. Until 2010 he was the Deputy Director of the Central Bohemia Regional Department in Prague, and until 2013 he was the Deputy Director General for the Management of Heritage Sites. Since 2015 he has been working at the Methodological Centre of Modern Architecture in Brno. He is the author of a number of publications and is involved in research projects.

Mgr. et Mgr. Martin Šolc, DiS.

Martin Šolc graduated from the Secondary School of Building Architecture. At the same time, he gained four years of design experience and experience in consulting and advisory activities in the construction and energy industry. Gradually he started his studies at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University in Brno. Here he completed two master's degrees. The first in Art History (2014) and the second in Management in Culture (2015). Since 2014 he has been working at the National Heritage Institute. Until 2016 he was employed in the Regional Office in Kroměříž. Here he was the territory conservator for the area of Zlín and Luhačovice. Subsequently, he moved to the Methodological Centre of Modern Architecture in Brno (2016), where he has been working ever since. He is the author of publications focusing on conservation and art history; he is involved in research projects and conservation practice.

Mgr. Jaroslav Zeman, Ph.D.

doc. PhDr. Richard Biegel, Ph.D.

He deals mainly with the history of architecture from the Renaissance to the 20th century. However, he also pays a great deal of attention to contemporary developments in architecture, urban planning and conservation. He is actively involved in the preservation of architectural heritage (since 1996 he has been active in the Club for Old Prague) and has published works on these topics. His studies, e.g. the monograph Between Baroque and Classicism or the essays in the comprehensive synthesis Baroque Architecture in Bohemia, are characterised by an effort to understand individual architectural phenomena in a broader domestic and European context.

prof. PhDr. Rostislav Švácha, CSc.

He deals mainly with the history of architecture from the 17th century to the present day, and as an expert on twentieth-century architecture he is also known abroad. For his extensive publishing activities, he was awarded the 2013 Ministry of Culture Award for his contribution to the field of architecture, and he was previously awarded the Art History Society's Lifetime Achievement Award. For example, he led the extensive exhibition project Paneláci, whose accompanying publications won the 2018 Magnesia Litera Award in the category of educational literature. He is also active in the field of conservation, where he focuses primarily on the preservation of 20th century architecture and urban development regulation. He is also a research fellow at the Institute of Art History of the CAS.
