New buildings in a historic environment
The project is a loose continuation of an earlier exhibition project New in the Old: Contemporary Architecture and the Historic City, realized in 2011 at the Jaroslav Fragner Gallery in Prague. The exhibition in the framework of the currently prepared project will deal with new buildings in the historic environment from the perspective of conservation, with a detailed analysis and assessment of the urban context, the suitability of new forms to the existing, established built environment.
From a didactic point of view, a selection of particularly well integrated buildings, visually memorable, easy to follow examples will be presented. In order to make the presentation understandable to a lay audience, a memorable example of an inappropriate solution will also be presented. The exhibition will present mainly domestic examples, but also selected architectural interventions entering the historical urban context of foreign cities. Important objectives include popularising the topic of area-based conservation, rehabilitation and justifying the need for area-based conservation of historic areas.
