Workshop: Examples of Best Practices
On October 31, 2025, a workshop for the project “New Buildings in a Historic Environment” was held at the Prague office of the National Heritage Institute, attended by professionals in the field of heritage preservation from several institutions. The goal of the event was to discuss and identify the examples of best practices for the methodology of new buildings in historic settings.
The presentation covered some seventy new buildings constructed in the historic centers of towns after 1989. The presenters were Assoc. Prof. PhDr. Richard Biegel, Ph.D., and Prof. PhDr. Rostislav Švácha, CSc. (Institute of Art History, Faculty of Arts, Charles University), Mgr. Klára Pučerová, Ph.D. (Architectura), Mgr. Eva Erbanová, Mgr. Ing. Alžběta Gniadková, Ph.D., Ing. arch. Matyáš Kracík, Prof. PhDr. Petr Kratochvíl, CSc., Mgr. Martin Strakoš, Ing. Petr Svoboda, Mgr. et Mgr. Martin Šolc, DiS., Ing. arch. Renata Vrabelová, Ph.D., and Mgr. Jaroslav Zeman, Ph.D. (National Heritage Institute). After an extensive discussion, those present agreed on the exemplary nature of most of the buildings and also identified about ten others that would merit inclusion in the methodology. The team developing the methodology will now review all the suggestions and prepare a complete working draft of the publication for the next workshop.
